What to Stuff in a Gardener’s Stocking

Any gardener will tell you a good tool is worth its weight in gold so if you have gardeners on your holiday shopping list, consider putting a new gardening tool in their stockings.

The horticulturists here at the Conservancy – and many of our volunteers – rave about the CobraHead Weeder and Cultivator. The CobraHead ($24.95) has a long handle and one curved steel blade. It’s great for digging up weeds and for cultivating and digging small plants for transplanting. Perfect for Christmas, shop CobraHead for gift packages that include the CobraHead plus a variety of soaps, lotions and balms specifically for folks who spend a great deal of time digging in the dirt.

With bulb planting and pruning season upon us, a nice trowel and a good set of pruners also make great gifts for gardeners.

If you can, shop locally. Hyams Garden and Accent Center, 870 Folly Road, has a huge selection of plants, containers, seasonal gifts and gardening tools. And on the other side of town, stop by Abide-A-While Garden Center, 1460 Highway 17 North in Mount Pleasant. This store not only has plants and gardening supplies, but a gift shop of jewelry, home accessories, candles and handbags.

How about a gift your flower-lovin’ friend or family member can enjoy for weeks this spring. Make a donation to the Conservancy’s daffodil program and help us plant thousands of daffodil bulbs in Charleston parks.
