Weeding Wednesday Wrapped

Weeding Wednesday season has officially come to a close for the year. As a community, we have made major strides at Colonial Lake since we first called on you to join us on Wednesday evenings for snacks, music, fun mocktails and to hand pull weeds in order to avoid using harmful chemical sprays during our revitalization.

From June through mid-August, 154 volunteers joined us at Colonial Lake and contributed 308 hours of hands-on service to help keep the weed pressure at bay during our revitalization process. We couldn’t have done it without them!

Neighbors surrounding the lake generously hosted the Conservancy and our volunteers for food, a refreshing drink and social gatherings after the work was done. We want to thank Pamela & Ron Wyman, Tara & Dave Skirzenski and Hallie Seibels for accepting our dirty, sweaty group into their homes.

Some weeks we gathered under a tent after we finished weeding and enjoyed food provided by local community partners including D’Allesandro’s Pizza, Moe’s Southwest Grill and Publix. Thank you.

Finally, a special thanks to our ongoing Conservancy partner, Tito’s Vodka, for donating $1,000 to our efforts and creating a special Conservancy cocktail (Honeydew the Weeding – available through September 8!) for all to enjoy at Blind Tiger Pub. We enjoyed ending the season with a toast.

The work doesn’t stop here. There are so many more ways to get involved in the Conservancy and our mission. If this was your introduction to what we do, be sure to sign up for our newsletter and check our website for more upcoming opportunities.

We will see you all next summer!
