Risk-Free Gardening! Give it a Try
Have you ever wanted to try gardening but with a little hands-on instruction (as opposed to killing your plants three days after you bought them)? … OK, that’s what we thought. Our Garden in the Parks events are the perfect, low-pressure way to try gardening.
You simply join other volunteers of varying horticultural skill levels to work in some of Charleston’s parks and spruce them up! Even if you’ve never put a plant in the ground (and believe us, we’ve had plenty of people who haven’t!), you can help. Our staff is available to answer questions and provide direction. Tasks include planting, water, mulching, weeding and raking.
Gardening is a great stress reliever and it’s also good team activity if your company is looking for a volunteer project.
Some of the parks we are working in are:
– Windermere Community Garden
– Chapel Street Fountain Park
– Hazel Parker Playground
– Cannon Park
– Brittlebank Park
– Marion Square
– Etiwan Park on Daniel Island
Take a look at our current Garden in the Parks schedule and sign up for a time that works for you.
So pick up a pair of gardening gloves on your next trip to the store. Now, you have no excuse not to give gardening a try. And if you can make a city park beautiful, imagine what you can do in your own yard!
