Medway Park and Community Garden Renovation

Visit This Park: Medway Park and Community Garden

In November 2015, the Charleston Parks Conservancy expanded its community garden program into James Island with the opening of Medway Park and Community Garden. The 4-acre garden has 60 leased beds, two of which are wheelchair accessible, and 12 community garden beds. Volunteers help harvest vegetables from these community beds and donate them to local food pantries. In the fall of 2017, The Conservancy worked with a class from the Clemson Architecture Center in Charleston to design and build a community garden pavilion/storage shed. The $40,000 initial project cost was funded by community donations as well as $10,000 donations each from Olde Charlestowne Sertoma Club and The Standard James Island.
