Plantings Begin at Moultrie Playground

The Conservancy is moving forward with the horticulture installation at the newly renovated Moultrie Playground. The plantings are scheduled to begin this month and will continue into early November. We spoke with our Director of Horticulture, Jim Martin on what park goers can expect in the next phase of the installation.

“October’s cooler weather will usher in the finishing touches to the newly renovated Moultrie Playground. The East-side entrance will feature one of Charleston’s newest gardens with flowering perennials taking center stage amongst one of the Conservancy’s shortest plantings.” According to Martin, none of the plantings will grow to a height of more than 3 feet. “The garden will boast year round color with old time favorite southern bulbs, plants that attract insects and butterflies and shrubs that maintain their height while not skimping on color.”

Bed prep will occur starting in mid-October with new plantings in place before the end of the month. According to Martin, “The plantings will reflect a child-like freedom fitting for a garden celebrating the newly renovated children’s playground.”

The Conservancy is planning a small reopening celebration of Moultrie Playground in coordination with The City of Charleston later this year. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and financial resources to bring this renovation to fruition.
