Neighbors Begin Fundraising for McMahon Upgrades
A hallmark of the Charleston Parks Conservancy is the way it works with park neighbors to improve parks and green spaces. So when those living near Hampton Park approached us about beautifying McMahon Playground, we were eager to begin a partnership with them and the City of Charleston to beautify the space around the playground and at the Cleveland Street entrance to the park.
So far we’ve raised almost $11,000 for the project. Marshall Walker and Ben Danosky and Yarrum Properties donated $1,500 each and the The Park Cafe near Hampton Park hosted a sold-out fundraiser in August. With more than $1,400 donated from tickets sales by The Park Cafe and an additional $6,532 in donations from patrons, the neighborhood is well on its way to seeing a beloved, but well-worn playground become a more inviting place for both play and rest.
The project is still in the early stages and we’re working out the specific details so stay tuned!
