Make a Difference in Your Parks

Millions will gather Saturday, Oct. 22 for the annual Make A Difference Day, created by USA Weekend Magazine. According to the website, Make a Difference Day truly has a national impact: “Together with long-standing partner HandsOn Network, the generosity of Newman’s Own and hundreds of carrier newspapers, USA Weekend rallies millions in a single day to help change the world.”

We know it’s not hard to find a cause worthy of your time and talents, but we’d like to encourage you to make a difference in your local parks. Parks have a far-reaching impact and touch the lives of people in our community and those visiting from other areas.

Just recently the readers of Conde Nast Traveler named our lovely city the No. 1 tourist destination in America and we like to think some of that has to do with our amazing parks. The city of Charleston has 120 parks and green spaces, including such icons as Waterfront Park, Marion Square and Hampton Park along with other community parks like Corrine Jones, Elliotborough and Simonton parks.

What park makes a difference to you? Let’s work together to keep that park looking its best. Is there a park we should be working in? Would your community group, business or club like to make difference in a park? Let us know because together we can make a difference not just on Make A Difference Day but every day.
