Lowe’s Heroes Volunteer at New Community Garden

Earlier this year the Charleston Parks Conservancy received a $20,000 Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement Grant, to begin development of a new community garden in West Ashley. This week, we had some Lowe’s Heroes, volunteers from the Lowe’s Home Improvement story in West Ashley, help us out in the developing garden. They even came with their own power tools! These volunteers helped us build the community beds – the vegetable beds that will eventually be planted for community use. Other beds will be leased to individuals.

Also the public is invited to see the progress at the Community Vegetable Garden, located at the intersection of Sycamore Avenue and Magnolia Road in West Ashley. The open house is 4-6 p.m. Nov. 19 on the property. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about how to get involved in the community garden, including leasing garden space, volunteering and donating to the project.
