For a Better Charleston.
Charleston’s parks provide vibrant spaces for recreation, relaxation, and connection – the essential building blocks of a strong community. Managing and programming 26 parks requires $2.5 million annually, with 90% of that funding relying on the generosity of donors like you.
Every contribution, regardless of size, makes a significant impact in enhancing these cherished green spaces.
Your support has allowed us to execute several impactful projects that benefit the community and the environment over the past year. Here are some highlights of our 2024 initiatives:
- Wragg Square revitalization reimagined the park’s shade and sun gardens, created lawn space for community events and gathering and restored the iconic stone pathways.
- A vibrant pollinator garden was installed at Corrine Jones Park to support wildlife and promote biodiversity.
- The Vangie Rainsford Park revitalization restored this tranquil formal garden, adding more plant diversity and lush beauty for the community to enjoy.
- Seasonal displays at Rose Pavilion and Marion Square have brought vibrancy and charm to these active public spaces throughout the year.
- Installing bioswales at Tiedemann has improved stormwater management and enhanced the park’s ecological health.
- Expansion of the cut flower program to donate fresh blooms to the community, promote sustainable gardening practices and add beauty to our parks.
- The installation of sculpture art on the West Ashley bikeway has added an element of whimsical enjoyment and visual appeal for pedestrians and cyclists.
- South Carolina’s first public food forest at Mulberry Park creates a space for community members to engage with sustainable agriculture while addressing the need for access to healthy food.
- Hosting the largest Teddy Bear Picnic ever brought families together for a fun-filled day of activities and community bonding. The event recently received an award for its impressive waste diversion and reduction efforts.
