Hampton Park Project Moves Forward

At its Aug. 18 meeting, Charleston City Council gave final approval to a lease agreement between the City of Charleston and the Charleston Parks Conservancy that will allow the Conservancy to renovate and manage underutilized facilities at Hampton Park.

The project contemplates converting the former police horse stables and superintendent’s cottage at the park’s northeast corner into a multi-use community center. The under-used snack stand near the lagoon will be upgraded into a family friendly outdoor cafe. These facilities, once in operation, will help support the Conservancy’s mission of improving parks throughout the City of Charleston.

Review the plans and other documents relating to the project on our Hampton Park page.

Next steps: The Charleston Parks Conservancy will now begin a Request for Proposals (RFP) process to select a private sector team to partner with the Conservancy to renovate and operate the cafe and the multi-use community center. The RFP will be available to applicants in early fall 2015. Please stay tuned for more information.
