Group Volunteer Opportunities Abound

The thing about parks is that they need TLC pretty much year round. Whether it’s pulling weeds, planting, watering or mulching, it seems there’s always a job to be done. So volunteering in Charleston’s parks is a terrific project for a business, neighborhood, club, student or church group or even some friends looking to make a difference in the community.

We love having groups come out and volunteer with us. We can accommodate varying schedules and have a variety of tasks to fit interests and skill levels. Volunteers don’t need a degree in horticulture or a long history of personal gardening. Our staff members can explain what needs to be done and how – giving our volunteers the chance to work with professional horticulturists and pick up tips and tricks for their own gardening adventures.

Our focus in the summer is primarily on keeping the parks watered and healthy. With the fall season upon us, we’ll be busy in the parks with new plantings and cleanup. It’s an active time – perfect for volunteers.

Check out our events calendar for regular volunteer opportunities known as Garden in the Parks. Aside from our scheduled gardening events, we’ll be organizing additional projects this fall. If your group has a special request, just let us know. We’ve had everyone from lawyers to Starbucks baristas working in our parks so there truly is something for everyone.

And just think, the next time you’re strolling through Marion Square, you can tell your friends, “Look, I planted that.”
