Greenhouse Growth and the Power of the Hoop House

Our hoop house is at the heart of our spring flower displays – a valuable tool for growing thousands of plants before they are planted in the Conservancy’s 26 parks, gardens and trails. Throughout the winter, we have carefully nurtured young plants in this controlled environment, ensuring they develop strong roots and vibrant foliage.

This structure enables our horticulturalists to grow from seeds and plugs and propagate plants into mature, impactful displays – all budget conscientious methods for growing the large volume of plants it takes to create our beautiful park gardens. Growing from plugs also allows us to introduce a more diverse plant palette by curating plugs and seeds that are not often available for purchase.

Right now, the hoop house is brimming with plants getting ready for their debut, including bacopa, agastache (‘Summer Longs’), dianthus calibrachoa, echinacea, bellis, and salvias.

This month, our team and volunteers will move these fresh plantings into our parks to refresh our park gardens and create stunning seasonal displays at Marion Square, Vangie Rainsford Park, Tiedemann Park and Nature Center, and Rose Pavilion.
