Go Ahead, Plant a Flower

Spring comes next week and we can’t contain our excitement. So, we’re celebrating a little early with Plant a Flower Day (March 12). The big question is what to plant? The garden centers are filling up with annuals, perennials, flowering shrubs and more.

For inspiration, here’s a great article from Better Homes and Gardens about the top new flowers for 2012. The list includes varieties like “SuperCal Pink Ice Petchoa,” described as a cross between a petunia and a calibrachoa. The name itself makes us want to try it in a hanging basket on the porch.

You can’t go wrong with a good geranium, so also on the list is the Precision series offering more colorful options from dark burgundy to pink, making them perfect for a mixed container.

One other that caught our attention is the Supertunia White Russian Petunia. Talk about stunning! This white petunia with its dark chocolate center is sure to add interest and dimension to any bed or container.

So, what plants are you trying this spring? Have you found something new? Let us know! We’d love to see a photo on our Facebook page.
