February 2019 Park Angels of the Month: Event Squad

This past month ten volunteers joined the new Conservancy Event Squad and they are all ready for action. Event Squad made their debut in January at “Shucked + Sauced” in Hampton Park. The team assisted with taking tickets, putting on wristbands, event breakdown, and otherwise making sure the event ran smoothly.

Event Squad members serve a one-year term and volunteer at four to six events throughout the year. These events can include Shucked + Sauced, Teddy Bear Picnic, Sunday Brunches, Movie Nights, Bark Angel events, Party for the Parks, and others. Extra benefits include the ability to earn event tickets and Conservancy swag.

From set up to breakdown and all the important jobs in between. “Event Squad is essential to the success of our events,” shared Rachel Barry, Volunteer Coordinator for the Charleston Parks Conservancy. “They are the crew that makes our events happen.”

“I used to volunteer for the Conservancy when I attended CofC and they were hands-down my favorite volunteering opportunity. I want to be able to give back to this organization in the form of volunteering to be able to contribute to a cause and need that I think is very important for our county,” shared Julia Duda.

“I love being outside, and I think that having outdoor public spaces is important in communities. I would love to be able to help keep these green spaces beautiful and put on events that make the community feel welcome,” shared Emma Rastatter.

You can catch the Event Squad at a Charleston Parks Conservancy event near you.
