Executive Director Search Committee Update

Following the leadership transition in October 2025, the Board of Directors established a search committee to guide the Charleston Parks Conservancy Executive Director search. The search committee is chaired by Sean Holleran and includes Board members and community leaders. The committee was tasked with assessing the Conservancy’s leadership needs and managing a structured, well-governed hiring process.
The search began with a clear assessment of the organization’s priorities, operational needs, and long-term stewardship goals, including the importance of strong public-private partnership experience and deep familiarity with Charleston’s parks and park systems. Using this foundation, the committee developed a leadership profile to guide its evaluation.
Throughout the process, the search committee has explored options, conducted research, and gathered recommendations to inform its work, while the full Board has retained oversight and decision-making authority. The Board-led committee is following a targeted approach that is common in nonprofit executive searches, enabling it to assess leadership needs, evaluate candidates, and conduct the process confidentially.
The process is ongoing, and the search committee is nearing the point of bringing a recommendation to the full Board. Any appointment will require a formal Board vote. Once a candidate is approved and accepts the role, the Charleston Parks Conservancy team will be informed, followed by a public announcement.
