December 2019 Park Angels of the Month: Lead Park Angels

This holiday season we’d like to give thanks to our wonderful team of Lead Park Angels who go above and beyond the call of volunteering, acting as ambassadors for Charleston’s parks by donating their time, treasures and talents to make Charleston a better place for all. Without their tireless support, the Charleston Parks Conservancy’s mission would not be possible.

In 2019, our dynamic team of Park Angels logged more than 7,240 hours of service for their parks. Of those 7,240 hours, 2,299 (32%) of them came from fewer than a dozen of our volunteers whom we are proud to call our Lead Park Angels.

We are excited to announce that beginning in 2020 The Conservancy will be adding two new Lead Park Angels to our team, Jessie Bleichman and Christine Cotton. “We couldn’t be happier to have Jessie and Christine as our new Lead Park Angels,” said Rachel Barry, Volunteer Manager for The Conservancy. “Jessie and Christine have proven themselves again and again as invaluable members of our team of volunteers and we can’t wait to see what they do next.”

Both Jessie and Christine were honored to join as Lead Angels. “Volunteering with The Conservancy has been incredible. I feel so fortunate to have found the Charleston Parks Conservancy and jump at any chance to volunteer. I hope to be an asset in encouraging others to volunteer as well. I’m excited to spread the word.,” shared Jessie. “When I’m gardening I’m in my happy place. Selfishly, I volunteer so I can exercise, get fresh air, and garden,” she added with a smile. “As a whole, the Lead Angels are smart, kind, creative, civically-minded, hard working, and a bunch of fun. I am so happy to be on the team.”

Christine agreed, saying “Over the past few years, I have become more involved with The Conservancy and it feels like a natural next step to become a Lead Angel. I look forward to taking a more active role in sharing the goals and opportunities of the Conservancy with the Charleston community.”
