Daffodil Bulbs Have Arrived!…..Ready for January Planting in the Parks
Yep, that’s right, 11,000 daffodil bulbs have been delivered to the Parks Conservancy. Two cultivars ‘Carlton’ and ‘Saint Keverne’ were chosen for planting this year. They were selected not only for the golden yellow beauty of their blooms and their soft vanilla fragrance, but also for their all around toughness and ability to perennialize in the South. Not just any daffodil will keep coming back year after year when exposed to the brutual heat that is a Charleston summer. These two cultivars have proven not only to survive, but to thrive in our climate.
We purchased the bulbs from Brent and Becky’s Bulbs! Our No. 1 source for the highest quality and best selection of spring and summer flowering bulbs.
Crate after crate full of potential were unloaded from the truck.
Precious cargo coming through!
The bulbs need to be stored in a cool, dry space (a.k.a my garage) until planting.
OK, so now that the bulbs are delivered and stored, now what?
The only way we can go from thousands of bulbs in crates…..
To thousands of beautiful spring blooms in our parks is…….
YOU!
We have planting days set up for you to come join in and help get these bulbs to their new homes. No prior gardening experience is necessary; just the desire to meet and work with like-minded people as we continue to beautify Charleston’s parks and green spaces one flower bulb at a time.
Our first day is set for Saturday, January 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at Windermere Boulevard Community Garden. Here’s a link for more details and directions: Garden in the Parks- Windermere. We do ask you bring a hand trowel or your favorite small planting tool if you have one. If you don’t have one, don’t let that stop you, we will have extras.
Additional planting days will be available soon at Charleston Parks Conservancy | Events | or check out our Facebook site at Facebook/Charleston Parks Conservancy
Hope to see you out planting with us soon!
