Clean up of Brittlebank Park and River Sweep as Bat Mitzvah Service Project
Halle Lipov is having her Bat Mitzvah at the Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim (KKBE) Temple on Hasel Street this Saturday. As part of her Bat Mitzvah ceremony and celebration Halle perfomed a service project last Saturday, matching her overall theme of Reduce Reuse Recycle. She held a major clean up of Brittlebank Park and River Sweep to clean all of the trash and litter out of Brittlebank Park, and the surrounding marsh and waterways.
It was amazing to see this very large group of friends and family (ranging from 7 to 70 yrs. of age) working cooperatively for hours to clean Brittlebank Park and the adjacent marsh areas . Through this private initiative we were treated to lunch, lessons on Environmental Stewardship and Recycling by LEEP (Low Country Education Program) and a speaker from Charleston County’s Recycling Divsion. So many of the participants were teens and it is wonderful they were and will continue to be exposed to the importance of maintaining and caring for our parks and natural spaces. Do you know that Charleston County is only at a 10% level of recycling???
We have our t-shirts proclaiming “I helped Halle Save the Planet” , a great sense of accomplishment , and more Pride in Our Parks. Congratulations to Halle Lipov ( surely a future Park Angel—-even at Age 13).
