 Rosa ‘Knockout’- Blush Pink Knockout Rose

– Hardy shrub rose with flushes from April until first frost. Hard winter prune required in February and a light summer prune in June. Like full sun and well-drained soil. Mostly disease free, some aphid problems.

 

Crinum ‘Stars and Stripes’- Stars and Stripes Crinum Lily

– Clumping bulb with long, rich green foliage. White flowers with red/pink stripes on 2 foot stalks in summer. Like full sun, moderately salt tolerant. Foliage damaged by cold temperatures but come back strong.

 

Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm’- Gloriosa Daisy, Black-Eyed Susan

– Upright perennial Rudbeckia variety with bright yellow, daisy-like flower petals and dark centers on 1-2 foot long stems. Flowers summer and into fall. Like full sun.

Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Prostratus’- Prostrate Rosemary

– Woody perennial herb with fragrant, evergreen foliage. Great drought-tolerant, texture rich plant. Long bloom periods in warm climates with blue/purple flowers.

 

Callicarpa americana– American Beautyberry

– Deciduous, woody shrub. Like full sun to part shade, more fruit set in full sun. Not salt tolerant. Rich magenta berries in late summer and through fall, remaining on bare stems after leaves drop. Low maintenance plant that attracts birds.

 

Bulbine frutescens ‘Hallmark’ – Bulbine

– Clumping succulent perennial. Small yellow flowers on 2-3 ft spikes from mid-Spring through Fall. Like full sun to part shade.

 

Heliotropium arborescens ‘Fragrant Delight’ – Garden Heliotrope

– Great long blooming perennial groundcover. Blooms have numerous tiny purple flowers that have a strong, vanilla-like fragrance. Full sun.

 

Pennisetum purpureum ‘Princess’- Purple Princess Fountain Grass

– Medium sized ornamental grass rich with greens and purples. Great accent plant. Exhausted brown foliage tears away for easy maintenance.

Viburnum suspensum– Sandankwa Viburnum

– Great upright to spreading evergreen shrub with rich green, coarse leaves. Small, unpleasant scented white to pinkish flowers in late winter and through spring and summer. Full sun to part shade.

 

Chionanthus virginicus– Native Fringe Tree, Old Man’s Beard

– Deciduous native tree noted for its dense, fragrant white blooms in the spring. The blooms resemble a white/grey beard, hence the plant’s common name. Great specimen tree that enjoys full sun to part shade.

 

Salvia leucantha ‘Santa Barbara’- Salvia, Mexican Sage 

– Upright, fall flowering Salvia. Long rich purple spikes of flowers from September until frost. Full sun.

 

Echinacea purpurea – Purple Cone Flower

– Long blooming, upright perennial. Rich lavender single flower with purple/brown, spiny centers atop a 2-3 foot stem. Bloom from spring and deep into fall. Full sun. Also a great cut flower.

 

Ilex vomitoria ‘Taylor’s Rudolf’- Yaupon Holly

– Compact evergreen shrub, great for borders. Abundant red fruit set. Like full sun to part shade.

 

Crinum x Cecil Houdyshel – Cecil Crinum Lily

– Strap like rich green foliage. Bears a pink and white, bell-shaped flower atop a 2 foot spike in late spring and through summer. Full sun.

 

Eragrostiss elliottii– Blue Love Grass

– Rapid growing ornamental grass. Deep blue-green foliage with blooms from summer into fall. Like full sun.

 

Panicum virgatum ‘Northwind’- Northwind Panicum Grass, Switchgrass 

– Tall, upright ornamental grass with medium green blades. Foliage and flower heads have a great bronze fall color. Good backdrop plant in bunches, as well as great container centerpieces. Full sun to part shade.

 

Mascagnia macroptera– Butterfly Vine, Yellow Orchid Vine

– Easily trained evergreen vine. Long blooms of clusters of yellow flowers. Seed capsules resemble a butterfly, hence the common name.

 

 Lonicera sempervirens– Red Honeysuckle

– Native high climbing, semi-evergreen twining vine with glossy leaves. Long lasting tubular red flowers. Great hummingbird attractor. Full sun to part shade. Not an aggressive vine.

 

Lilium formosanum – Formosa Lily, August Lily

– Tall, upright perennial bulb. Produce large showy and fragrant trumpet shaped flowers atop 5 to 6 foot tall stalks from August through November. Spent, brown seedheads are charming in their own way and contribute to a garden’s fall color. Like full sun.
