Bring Your Own Water Bottle Initiative

This year the Charleston Parks Conservancy will no longer bring single-use plastic water bottles to volunteer sessions. Instead, we call on all Park Angels to bring your own reusable water bottles.

Until late 2017 Charleston Parks Conservancy staff members had been providing hard-working volunteers with bottles of water during volunteer shifts. However, with growing concerns about the negative impacts disposable plastic bottles have had on our parks, the Conservancy is asking all volunteers to “Go Green.”

“We are really focused on reducing the amount of single-use and disposable plastics we bring to our volunteer events,” says Rachel Kelley, Volunteer Coordinator at the Conservancy. “Our Park Angel volunteers are excited by this initiative. We all think it’s so important to do what we can to reduce our environmental impact and bringing our own reusable water bottles is just one of the ways we can do that.”

The Charleston Parks Conservancy will bring water coolers so that volunteers can refill their own bottles. “We’ve already had a number of our volunteers start to bring their own reusable water bottles, so they can’t wait to put this into action on a regular basis,” says Kelley.

The Conservancy also will have prize drawings for those dedicated to their own water bottles for upcoming community events, including Garden in the Parks and Gather and Garden. Make it your resolution to join the Charleston Parks Conservancy and go green in 2018!
