Aqua Angel: Patricia Harpell

This summer, a dedicated group of Parks Conservancy volunteers are braving the Charleston heat and humidity to keep our parks looking great. Each week they water the plants, inspect the beds and pick up litter. We call them our Aqua Angels and have crowned each with an H²O Halo! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting our Aqua Angels. And when you see them out in the parks, give them a big “thank you!” This week read about Patricia Harpell, who’s watering Cannon Park.

__Why did you sign up to be an Aqua Angel?__

To help preserve the plantings that make so many people happy and make our parks more beautiful.

__Which Charleston park is your favorite and why?__

They all have a special charm, and I’ve not seen them all yet. Choosing a favorite is not possible!

__What’s your favorite summertime park activity or event?__

Walking, looking at the plants.

__Why should someone become a Park Angel and volunteer with the Conservancy?__

It depends on your motivation. It’s a way to meet people; to be in nature; to learn how to design, plant and maintain gardens from Charleston’s top horticulturists; to give back to nature; and more.
