Kate joined the Conservancy in May 2022 as Director of Horticulture.
Kate’s love of Horticulture and Gardens developed at a very early age working with her mother in their home garden and having the opportunity to travel and visit historic gardens around the world at a young age. After graduating from Ohio University with a degree in Environmental Geography, Kate found her way back to the Lowcountry and to Horticulture, graduating with her Associates degree in Horticulture from Trident Technical College. Her love of travel pushed her to accept an internship with the French Heritage Society studying in several French Gardens including Chateau de Brecy, Chateau de Valmer, and Chateau d’Acquigny. Upon returning to Charleston, Kate began her career with Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. While there, she managed the Horticulture Department, led the 200 plus volunteer contingent, conceptualized the Gilliard Garden Center, developed their camellia website and database, and designed the exquisite annual and perennial beds.
She enjoys cooking, spending time with family friends, traveling, and hiking when time allows.
