Mary Tilt Hammond
Originally from Bedford, New York, Mary fell in love with the South while attending Vanderbilt University. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Human and Organizational Development, Mary returned to New York City and began her career in marketing and communications. She spent several years with designer Nicole Miller as Communications Director, followed by a tenure at Hearst Corporation generating high revenue marketing programs. Her positions at Hearst included International Marketing Director for Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, Integrated Marketing Director for Elle Magazine, and manager of select international programs for Hearst Corporate Marketing Division. In 2012, Mary and her husband Stephen moved to Charleston, excited for a new chapter in this beautiful city. Mary continued her career in publishing as Executive Director of Integrated Marketing for Garden & Gun Magazine until 2015, when she chose to focus on raising their two young daughters.
Mary has always had a love for the outdoors. Growing up, she devoted much of her time to equestrian sports, becoming a nationally ranked hunter/jumper rider. She continues to ride in Charleston when she can. She also enjoys playing tennis and taking long jogs throughout our wonderful city. Mary has embraced the city of Charleston—she is a member of St. Michael’s Church, involved in Ashley Hall School, and actively fundraises for the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry.
