A Community Garden’s First Harvest

Our newest park, Magnolia Park and Community Garden, has been bustling with activity. The park opened at the end of April and almost immediately the 40 leased beds were snatched up by eager neighborhood gardeners. Volunteers have since helped us build another 20 beds.

On May 29, volunteers helped gather the first harvest from the community beds – kale and rainbow chard. Much of it was donated to Lowcountry Food Bank.

If you haven’t visited Magnolia Park yet, stop by and check it out. It’s in the Avondale area of West Ashley at the corner of Magnolia Road and Sycamore Avenue. Our community garden coordinator Leslie Wade would be happy to show you around.

Keep watching for more on our community gardening – or park-to-table as we like to call it – projects this summer and a new one coming to Medway Park on James Island.

Head over to our Facebook page for more community gardening photos.
