As the events director for the Conservancy, Mary Neves Richards coordinates events for the Conservancy and coordinates efforts involving the Park Angels, the volunteer core for the Conservancy.
Richards has been working with the Conservancy almost since its inception and was initially selected as a lead Park Angel in 2007 and has been an active volunteer.
Having grown up in Charleston and attended Ashley Hall School, she is no stranger to the city’s parks. She also previously worked for the Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department, the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department and the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission. While with Charleston County, she helped bring recreation to the rural areas of Charleston County through the Community Education Program that is sponsored jointly by Parks and Recreation Commission and the Charleston County School District.
Richards also worked for the Family Circle Cup, joining the organization in 2000 as the event moved from Hilton Head to Daniel Island. Richards was responsible for setting up, recruiting and managing the volunteer program. Even though she left the organization in 2007, she continues to volunteer with the event.
Richards has a bachelor’s degree in parks, recreation and tourism management from Clemson University and is a strong Tiger football fan. She and her husband, Mikell, have three children: Emily, 11, Hayes, 8, and Nora Clair, 2.
