The Conservancy and friends of the Maybank Tennis Center raised more than $16,000 for the addition of three clay courts and the rebuilding of six hard courts in 2012.
Other facility improvements included:
- Raised all the court elevations and installed two detention ponds onsite to reduce flooding and improve drainage in the facility.
- Additional parking to accommodate the two new courts. In total there are 49 parking spots, enough to accommodate the normal day-to-day tennis players.
- New lighting for all of the hard courts, sidewalks, drinking fountain and landscaping.
Tony Page, the driving force behind Page’s Okra Grill in Mount Pleasant, was also an avid tennis player. And now a new backboard at Maybank Tennis Center will honor Page and his love of tennis. Page passed away in 2014. Friends, fellow tennis players and teammates from Mount Pleasant Recreation Center and Maybank Tennis Center dedicated a new backboard in Page’s honor.
