In addition to working alongside professional horticulturists and leaving their personal stamp on Charleston’s city parks, volunteer Park Angels get a few other perks, including a behind-the-scenes look at Sea Island Savory Herbs on Johns Island.
Park Angels, as well as members of the Charleston Horticulture Society, toured the facility and wandered the endless rows of plants and greenhouses brimming with everything from basil and cilantro to peppers and catnip.
Jim Martin, longtime horticulturist and executive director of the Conservancy, demonstrated how to create a container garden of flowers, herbs and vegetables.
