Learn to crab at the Daniel Island Waterfront Pier. We'll supply the bait, gear, and crab recipes. Each participant will rig (and take home) his/her own drop net. Children ages 5 and up are welcome to register; however, they must have a paid and registered chaperone (chaperone must be 18yrs or older). Preregistration only. $20 per person. When: Saturday, Jun 9th, 2012, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
In this class, we will investigate animal anatomy and function, starting from the inside out. The skeletons of the animals will be the basis for the armatures of our sculptures. We will look at how animals use their bodies to find food and shelter,and defend themselves from predators. We will use mostly recycled materials to create our own creatures based on the way real animals work! Ages 7 and up. Artist Becca Barnet just completed sculpting and painting elements of the SC Aquarium's "Madagascar Journey" Exhibit. Her work can be seen at the Young Contemporary Show at the City Gallery at the Waterfront for all of June and July. Let your little one create his/her own woodland fairy box. We'll take a nature walk and collect everything we need for the perfect fairy home. Leaf boats, moss carpet, and seed decor will make every fairy home special! We'll even make dining sets from corks and spools. Ages 4 and up. Hazel Parker Playground. $15. Got a classroom? Be the star of your school with this student friendly project. We'll make and take "grow boxes", large self watering containers perfect for vegetables. Self-watering pots draw water from a bottom reservoir into the soil without causing the soil to become too wet. Made from 32 gallon plastic storage bins and recycled gallon nursery pots, these environmentally friendly containers can last up to 5 years. Beat the heat and play indoors with FLIP mobile gymnastics. With the fantastic team track (inflatable trampoline tumbling strip), boys and girls will be able to try skills with a little extra spring and without fear of falling. All children will be taught the importance of proper stretching and strength to stay fit and safe. Gymnastics is a sport that can build strength, coordination, and flexibility which is proven to help in all areas of healthy living. Come try out the sport with us. Rising 1st grade through rising 5th grade. $10
