The neighborhood surrounding Allan Park is on a mission to improve its local park. The community has pledged to raise $15,000 to give the park a facelift with renovated green spaces and an irrigation system upgrade.

We have really expanded our children’s programming for the fall and into 2012. We’ll be focusing on gardening, nature and appreciating the great outdoors – no video games allowed!

It’s no secret biking is a big topic here in Charleston. With our narrow streets and limited number of trails, biking can at times be challenging. But there are some city parks with terrific trails to help you get your exercise on two wheels.

Have you ever picked up an orange and black woolly bear to figure out the winter forecast? Anyone who grew up in the North (they seem to be more common up there) might remember hearing about how the stripes on a woolly bear would tell you how severe the winter would be. These caterpillars aren’t quite that clever but they do have a fun history.

Greek fable writer Aesop said, “No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.” That statement certainly rings true for us here at the Parks Conservancy. We may think planting one daffodil bulb, watering one shrub or trimming one rose bush is a small act but it has tremendous value to our parks and the people who use them.
