Inside Charleston Parks
Insight from the Lead Parks Angels & the voices of the Charleston Parks Conservancy

It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy. Well, not for the Charleston Parks Conservancy! Our parks need love all year long so we’re busy bees well into the summer. Won’t you join us for some summer fun as an Aqua Angel?

If you lived relatively close to your workplace, would you bike to work? The truth is many people don’t. According to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, more than half of 1 percent of American workers use a bike as their primary transportation to getting from work. The good news is that’s a 40 percent growth since 2000. The bad news is that’s still a tiny number.

We’ll take any excuse to leave our desks and go to the park…and we’re guessing you probably feel the same. So, we love National Walk @ Lunch Day.

We’re stressed. A 2012 report from the American Psychological Association proves it. Even though reported stress levels have been dropping since 2007, stress levels are still high. May we suggest some time in the parks as a stress buster?

We love local and this month local is in full swing. Farmers markets are opening around the Lowcountry and it’s Eat Local Month, an initiative of Lowcountry Local First. The idea is to encourage buying and eating local and that includes shopping the market, joining a CSA or dining out in restaurants that support local farms and growers.
