About:
Park Week
Park Week is a weeklong celebration of Charleston’s parks that occurs each spring. Harpell will work with Conservancy staff to coordinate activities and promote events.
Harpell is the founder of the S.C. Herbal Society and a yoga teacher.
• Why did you want to be a Lead Park Angel? To learn, to teach, to be useful.
• Favorite garden, park or horticulture space? Wherever I am.
• One thing you learned from working with the Conservancy: Patience with untrained dog owners.
• Favorite hour of the day and why: All of them, because it means I’m alive and thankful.
• Best Charleston park and why: They all have a different personality. Cannon Park for the waving grasses, Marion Square for its promenade, Brittlebank Park for its island oasis.
• Favorite flower/plant: Whichever one is staring me in the face.
• If you could inscribe something on a park bench what would it say? Live Big. Love Bigger.
• Why should someone become a Park Angel and volunteer for the Conservancy? It brings out your “angelness.” Plus, you get to learn from the staff and then relay the knowledge to others.
