The New Old Museum Garden at Cannon Park: Growing Up Fast

new Cannon Park

A stunning backdrop of purple (Salvia leucantha 'Santa Barbara') and gold (Panicum virgatum 'Northwind') welcomes you to the newly planted bed at Cannon Park.

The new garden planted in Cannon Park by the columns of the original Charleston Museum is looking spectacular as ever as the summer bows out and autumn slowly moves in. Planted in late April with the help of the College of Charleston Graduate Student Association, the garden endured a brutally hot and humid Southern summer thanks to the watering help of Aqua Angel Patricia Harpell. The garden has grown noticeably in size over the last three months, and the array of colors and textures continue to change with the season.

Cannon Lilium

An August Lily/Formosa Lily (Lilium formosanum) makes an appearance in September, as Pink Knockout roses continue to do their job of flushing from March - first frost.

Cannon salvia

The bold purple flowers of Salvia leucantha 'Santa Barbara' reach for the Fall sky.

The mornings of late are perfect for spending in the garden, and we will be in Cannon Park this coming Thursday, September 22nd for a Garden In the Parks event from 8-10 am. Come on out and help prepare this impressive garden for the Fall.

Kellen, your mom shared this site with me. What a wonderful activity to be involved with. I love the purple flowers.

I am happy to see you doing something so positive for your community…I’m quite proud of you!

Take care…and Go Gators!
